ugh

So, I'm sick. Which sucks a lot, because I have so much to do this week... and tuesday is not a good day to miss class, because 4 out of my 5 classes meet on tuesdays. But after spending much of the night in front of a toilet, I figured it'd probably be smart not to go. ended up getting up at 5pm. whoops.
I'm sorry it's been so long since an update, I'm sure lots has happened but I just don't remember. I registered for classes today.... barely made it into one of my german classes, definitely got the last open slot.
So now I'm huddling under my blankets trying to warm up. The flu sucks. I blame Brent, because he was sick on monday. Dammit. I don't even remember the last time I had the flu... God bless flu shots. (although I'm sure it wasn't that long ago, probalby high school)
Bright note: Mom, Stephen, and Bradley come on saturday! woohoo! I'm mucho excited, but I don't know yet what we're going to do.
Last weekend, we (christine, Megan, Matt, Krista and I) went to London! It was wonderful and lots of fun, with only a few drawbacks. The biggest 2 being 1. the worst hostel on the face of the earth and 2. a 100 pound (read: $200) taxi ride back to the airport on sunday morning, after our bus screwed us over (flashback: milwaukee). Ironically, I could have flown home (as in, America) for 20 bucks more. oh good times.
However, none of that matters because we saw THE PRODUCERS. Wonderful, wonderful wonderful! Nathan Lane + Lee Evans (the "cripple" from Tehre's Something about Mary) = super fabulous. WE were extremely lucky to find tickets... 5 of them next to each other, because at approx. every single vendor they were completely sold out for days in advance. (Kind of a popular show)
We also visited Wimbeldon, which was cool, but not as because we weren't allowed in and the museum area didn't open til 10:30 (we were there at like 9 am) or something like taht. But still cool.
Ok, my stomach is hurting again so I'm going to curl into a ball and watch Sex and the City auf deutsch!
can't think of a song

la la la

So I have about 10 minutes before we're meeting downstairs to go shopping. I figured I might as well update you on the goings on these past, uh, 2 days?
Dinner w/ the Mitbewohners turned out great! With only one or two mishaps... Dominik made this shrimp cocktail thing that actually tasted good (I don't like shrimp, and I like it!). The mishaps happened when he put two of them in the door to our fridge, on a shelf that isn't stable to begin with and they were in two martini glasses. So when he opened the door a bit later, one fell out and shattered on the floor = cannot be consumed b/c we weren't sure if there was glass in it or not. Then when Anne came home, the same happened with the other one, so we ended up splitting the two survivors. But quite delicious. I'll have to get that recipe from him. :-) For the meal, I made german pfannkuchen (pancakes, but not really) and anne made a salad. The Pfannkuchen turned out a bit too thick, but I think that's because Leander decided that the batter was too thin (even though I followed directions exactly) and so added about another half or 2/3 of a cup of flour. So then when we made them, they were more towards american pancakes and less like german pancakes, and so you couldn't roll them up, like they would usually do. We ate them w/ mushrooms and onions and cheese. Which took me forever to figure out what they were talking about because they kept referring to gowdah... didn't think I knew that word until I saw them write it down and it was gouda. and then I knew they were talking about cheese. Minor story ;-).
Last night we went out to dinner w/ Megan's family (mom, dad, brother) at our favorite italian place here, La Piazza. Muy delicioso. Then we came back and ate oreos (they're really expensive here, but Jayme's mom sent her a box FULL of them) and drank milk and played siedler. Good times :-). Then chit chat until everyone dispersed and went to bed.
This week I think was stressful for everyone because we're all exhausted and not really in the mood to do much. Except go shopping! Gotta run!

hahahhaha

Sorry, just found two things you need to see:
1. Dallas, Co. Texas chooses Hispanic lesbian to be Sheriff: http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=1896&ncid=1896&e=1&u=/nm/20041103/us_nm/election_dallas_dc_1
and
2. If you ever watched GI Joe, please watch this!: http://www.somethingawful.com/articles.php?a=2463

That is all.

So much to say!

It's been awhile, but things have been crazy here so no time to update :-). And I really should be doing homework right now buuuuuuut... nah ;-). It won't take long and I don't think my professor is that strict about due dates.
So last weekend we went to Paris, which was wonderful (and the first time I really liked it... I actually want to go back, was was was?! (trans: what what what?!). Glorious times walking through the city, eating citrone crepes (lemon) and just having fun. I also found Kenny's future occupation :-). They have guys that just get on the trains in Paris and play instruments or sing or what not and then you know, take donations. Well a rapper guy came on w/ a boombox and speakers strapped to a sad looking dolly and then started rapping in french. I couldn't stop laughing and wishing it was Kenny! So don't worry kenny, maybe you'll earn enough so you don't have to live in a box after you graduate ;-). We did tons of stuff... went up the Eiffel tower, visited the Louve, saw the eiffel tower at night and when it sparkled! Beautiful! I took a video, but you all will have to wait til I come home to see it. The only bad thing was that on the way, Brent got a ticket on the train because of a very complicated issue that could have entirely been avoided if the kontrollieren guy (who checks the tickets) would have just spoken ENGLISH to us (which he knew, because at the very end he said everything in english) and had actually attempted to look at Brent's stuff, because it turned out Brent did have the stamp the guy claimed he was missing. In anycase, the whole train car rallied to our side and were all trying to explain to the guy stuff and it was crazy. hmmmm what else? This week has been busy, and short. We got home from Paris at like 8 monday night (everything was closed, including university classes wegen all saints day... woohoo!) Oh and then there was that tiny little occurence, the election ;-).
Definitely tried to stay up "just until Ohio and Florida are called". Whoops ;-). Finally fell asleep at like 5 30 am or something. Now I'm paying for it, because I also didn't get much sleep last night (and had a german midterm this morning! don't fret though, itw as fine). As for the election, I just have to get in my comment: woohoo! although I'm sure half of you are pretty pissed, I'm relieved. And now, I feel like the rest of this will be me talking about said election. So stop reading if you want to, but I don't think I'll really be saying much about the actual issues. So no worries :-).
It was very odd to be here for the election. I kept remembering back to 4 years ago when we watched it all in our family room and were happy. and together. Growing up sucks, by the way, for those of you who haven't picked up on that yet ;-). I very much felt homesick, especially when I tuned into WNUR via web streaming and heard familiar voices! And the whole thing was just crazy, because Kerry didn't concede until just before 5 30 or maybe 5 20 my time here. So the sun was definitely starting to set. (by the way, Germany, being very far north, has noooot so much daylight in the late fall/winter) I'll just barely come home before the darkest night of the year... which I'm sure here will last approx. 23 hours and 45 min. haha, j/k) In anycase, I totally wasn't expecting it so when I looked up from my politics homework (I had class at 6 15) and the bar changed from, so and so from such and such talking on blah blah, to "Kerry concedes" and then "Kerry calls bush to concede" I was utterly shocked, so much that I let out a huge gasp that anne heard through my only barely cracked open door and then she came in. Alison's brain = slow sometimes, and when I saw the "Kerry calls Bush to concede" which was what it changed to right away and then stayed as for awhile, I definitely thought that it meant that Kerry wanted Bush to concede. Yeah. Felt really stupid for that one ;-). Anne had a good laugh when it hit me. (it wasn't that big of a deal, probably only lasted a minute or less of confusion, but still. I'm retarded) Anne laughs and smiles a lot, too, which makes me happy. Sorry, side note. In anycase, almost right after that, I had to go to my politics class which ended up being half talking about the election and passing the news on to those who had been in class and half my professor half heartedly trying to get back on the topic of how the Bundestag is elected, and blah blah. So amusing.
On a side note, and I don't mean to offend those of you who are saying this, but you're not really serious about moving to canada, are you? I mean, joking about it, fine, sure, hahaha, good ol times. But I almost get the feeling a lot of people are serious about it? And I think that's just silly. The whole point of democracy is to vote and share your opinion... why do you want to run away from a fight? Will you just leave for 3 years and then come back to vote in the next election? And don't you think, that if you're really upset about this, it's more important to stay here and voice your opinion? To save america from falling even more off the edge, if that's what you feel is happening? I don't know. This all just hit me, so if there are huge fallacies, forgive me and think nothing of this :-). Haven't processed it yet. Although yeah, I understand if you don't agree w/ America, you should leave I guess. But still. Dunno. Complicated thoughts. Don't want to think. AHHHHHH.
So tonight my mitbewohners (roommates) and I are having/cooking dinner together. I'm excited. I think (?) Dominik is making crab and some sauce (hmmm, alison's not a huge fan of shell fish, but ah well. My mom taught me well how to force food down I don't like ;-) which reminds me, Mom, if you read this, be proud because I eat vegetables! Broccoli and Carrots and Cauliflower, even though I hate 2 of those 3, it was the cheapest, biggest bag of frozen vegetables. another thing I learned from my mom, canned vegetables = bad. well, not bad, just not as healthy.) for the main course, we're having german pancakes (like crepes only thicker) with mushrooms. Which will be interesting. I'm making the pancakes (thank you to the Pennsylvania Dutch for a recipe on those ;-)), so we'll see what happens. I promise to update you on that.
Woah, I've said a lot. I guess there was a lot to say, and I feel like I'm surely missing things. Ah well. You will hear stories a plenty eventually. (in 46 days!)
Which reminds me! Dominik found out that I was homesick sometimes and I guess he either felt bad or the need to reach out to me, because shortly thereafter (like, 5 min later) he made a sandwich and gave me half of it. Not because he didn't want it, just cause. He's a good guy. :-). All of them are, really. So good times.
Dangit. I guess I should go write my proposal/outline for Medieval Mindset.
*many times, I've been alone, and many times I've cried. anyways, you'll never know, the many ways I've tried. and still they lead me back, to the long, winding road* (sorry if that sounds like I'm depressed, it's just the song that's playing right now(and therefore in my head)! ;-))
